What is Chamber Music?
At Chamber Music Northwest, we embrace a broad definition of chamber music, and are committed to presenting a wide variety of ensembles and repertoire, to present the art-form of chamber music at its fullest and richest. A typical CMNW concert might include a mix of styles and eras—perhaps the premiere of a piano trio by a contemporary composer, a Telemann trio sonata for oboes and bassoon from 18th century Germany, and Copland's "Appalachian Spring," an American composition from 1944, in the original version for 13 instruments without conductor.
Where can I go for recordings of chamber music?
Locally, you can shop at Classical Music Millennium (3144 E. Burnside, 503-231-8909), where a friendly and knowledgeable staff will help you browse a huge selection of classical CDs and DVDs. Online, find great chamber music recordings through Amazon or Delos.
Portland's own All Classical FM is another great way to hear chamber music. Tune in to KQAC 89.9 around the Portland metro area, or opt for live streaming.
For more online listening, check out St. Paul Sunday or BBC's Hear and Now. CMNW concerts are also frequently broadcast on Performance Today.
